Douglas Deaton brings more than 25 years of experience in law enforcement and local government management to RDR Investigations & Crisis Mgmt.
As the founder and managing principal of RDR, he is passionate about helping others to make informed decisions and achieve evidence-based clarity in times of personal crisis.
Where it all started
Deaton began his law enforcement career in Highland Park, Texas, where he served as a full-time police officer and firefighter.
He later joined the Plano Police Department and spent the next 23 years working in high-profile units with performance standards among the most demanding in Texas law enforcement.
Experience & Commendations
Deaton’s assignments at the Plano Police Department included uniformed patrol, the SWAT team, criminal investigations, Training Sergeant, and Administrative Lieutenant for the Chief of Police.
He received 79 commendations and awards during his career including a Life Saving Award in 2012 and being named the Plano Police Department’s Sworn Supervisor of the Year in 2014.
Lieutenant Deaton completed his police service with a 5-year assignment in Persons Crimes where he successfully managed some of the most significant and sensitive criminal investigations in the history of the Plano Police Department.
His advanced education, formal training, and extensive operational experience have provided Deaton with unique insights into organizational behavior and the importance of taking measured but decisive action in the early phases of a crisis.
He is especially skilled at revealing the differences between genuine investigations and shallow inquiries conducted to create the illusion of diligence.
Education
Deaton holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas, a Master Peace Officer certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, and a Mediation and Dispute Resolution certificate from Southern Methodist University. He earned a graduate certificate in Local Government Management and a Master of Public Affairs degree from the University of Texas at Dallas.
